While early in my role as a design manager for Build.com it quickly became apparent that our workflow needed optimization. The team often rushed to meet deadlines, had to stay late to finish projects on time, and many of the designs were sent back for revisions.

I converted a simple checklist of projects into an expanded workflow that included detailed tasks, project prioritization, various dashboards, sprints, and kanban boards. Our department collaborated to overhaul our project intake process.

These changes boosted our first-time work-approval rate by over 30%, nearly eliminated late projects, plus improved efficiency, productivity, and output for the entire creative department.

This streamlining of the workflow of assigned projects and planning time helped the team forecast future needs, and nearly eliminated the need for rush jobs and overtime.

This created a positive, productive work culture for the design team, and empowered designers to actively contribute to the business through their individual work.
